My Original Art
I'm glad you stopped in. My name is Rebecca Monique Billingsley. I use my middle name to sign my art in honor of my grandpa who was super supportive of my creativeness. He told me Monique was my artist name and so it was. My grandpa was a a story teller and my imagination flourished in his company. My mom was a great artist but never pursued it more then doodles while on the phone, none the less I was inspired to draw and color as well as her. Art wasn't a rushed thing it was an expressive outlet. I learned that with a lot of patience you can achieve the results your striving for. I'ts rewarding to start from scratch and develop a vision with just some paint and a paint brush. The end results are not always what I plan for. Imagination can take wind and set me on a whole new path. My goal is to end with something I would want to hang in my house. My originals sometimes have gold leaf, metallic paint, beads, glitter etc. when the light changes so does the painting. It's hard to get bored with a painting that shines differently depending on the day. I do embody a sense of wonder in my work. I love being able to create a safe place for emotions and feelings. My favorite pieces usually stem from heavy emotions. When its hard to find words I feel called to SHOW what I feel. I want to be seen and understood but its complicated. Trying to make sense of the chaos in my head I use art as a tool to redirect that energy into a place of healing and calmness. I want peace and serenity. You might see that balance at work in my art. The contrast of loud energy being tamed. The chaos will always be there. The pain the hurt, it lives within us. It exists. I just try to make a conscious effort to not let it consume me. I acknowledge and respect its presence as lessons for self growth. Below you will see my past work that has been sold. Finally check out what is still waiting to find its forever home. -Monique
